Start with what has changed
Describe when the difficulty began, whether it is consistent or situational, and whether sexual interest, pain, or ejaculation has also changed. Explain what you have already tried, including online prescriptions and nonprescription products. You do not need to know the cause before requesting a consultation.
Erectile dysfunction can be associated with blood-vessel health, diabetes, nerve conditions, medicines, hormonal issues, stress, and other factors. Your clinician uses the history to decide what needs evaluation and whether another specialist would help. It should not automatically be attributed to low testosterone or aging.
Bring your medicines into the discussion
List prescriptions, supplements, and substances you use, including medicines taken only occasionally. Some combinations can be unsafe, and an accurate list helps guide the options. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own because you think it might be contributing.
If you have heart disease or symptoms with exertion, mention them. The conversation may include your general health as well as sexual function. Coordination with your primary care clinician, cardiologist, or urologist can be important when there are several medical issues.
Compare established options with newer claims
Treatment can include addressing contributing conditions, discussing suitable medicines or devices, and considering specialist care. The appropriate option depends on the evaluation, preferences, and contraindications. Ask what benefit is realistic and what to do if the first approach does not help.
Acoustic-wave, shock-wave, PRP, and stem cell claims need separate scrutiny. The AUA considers low-intensity shock-wave therapy for ED investigational. A marketing term such as enhancement does not establish a proven improvement in size, function, or long-term outcomes. Ask about evidence for the exact proposed treatment.
Define what improvement means to you
You may want more reliable erections, less anxiety about intimacy, or help understanding a new symptom. Share that goal so follow-up can address what matters. If relationship or psychological factors are involved, an appropriate referral may be useful alongside medical assessment.
Ask which services are currently available at the office and when urology referral is recommended. Costs and coverage depend on the service. An erection lasting more than four hours needs emergency care rather than a routine appointment request.
Start the conversation in Sandy Springs
Bring your current medicines and supplements, relevant test results, and a short timeline of symptoms. If you already receive hormone or sexual-health treatment elsewhere, include the product name, dose, and date of your last treatment. Clear information helps the clinician consider how a new recommendation would fit with your existing care.

Your questions, answered
A little more clarity.
Is erectile dysfunction always caused by low testosterone?
No. It can have vascular, medication-related, neurologic, hormonal, psychological, or other contributors. Evaluation helps identify the relevant factors.
Does the visit guarantee a specific ED treatment?
No. The clinician reviews your history and appropriate options, including referral when needed.
How can I prepare if I find the topic hard to discuss out loud?
Write a short note describing when the concern began, whether it happens consistently, any pain or curvature, and what you have tried. You can bring that note to the visit and use it to begin the conversation. Include your medication list and the goal that matters most to you; detailed online descriptions are not required to request an appointment.
