Migraine, Headache and Facial Pain Care in Sandy Springs

Repeated headaches and facial pain deserve a careful diagnosis. Migraine, tension-type headache, and nerve-related facial pain can feel different and may call for different care. A visit at our Sandy Springs office can start with your symptom history and the treatments you have already tried.

Bring a Headache and Facial Pain Record

A short diary can make patterns easier to discuss. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke recommends recording when an attack happens, how strong it is, what you were doing beforehand, and other symptoms. If the pain is in your face, note exactly where it occurs and whether it feels sudden, repeated, or connected to touch or jaw movement.

  • Record headache days, duration, location, and severity
  • Note nausea, light or sound sensitivity, or other symptoms
  • List prescription and over-the-counter medicines used for attacks
  • Bring questions about sleep, possible triggers, and daily impact

Treatment discussions may include medicines taken during an attack, preventive approaches for frequent attacks, and whether a procedure is appropriate for a specific diagnosis. Ask what condition each option is intended to treat, what benefit is realistic, and what risks or alternatives apply. See our pain management overview.

When a Headache Needs Urgent Attention

A sudden, severe headache, or a first or worst headache with confusion, weakness, double vision, or loss of consciousness, needs urgent medical evaluation rather than a routine pain appointment. The NINDS headache guide lists additional warning signs.
